Movement & Skill Acquisition Ireland in partnership with the Department of Sport, Leisure & Childhood Studies at Cork Institute of Technology, are delighted to announce their inaugural conference for April 6th & 7th, 2018. This presents an exciting opportunity for athletes, coaches, strength & conditioning practitioners, sport scientists, students, academics and sports medicine personnel to attend one of the most forward thinking events in the sporting calendar this year.

Day 1 from 18:00 to 21:00  & Day 2 from 09:00 to 17:00

The theme for the event is: Constraints based coaching and ecological dynamics to enhance sports performance.

This event will be the first of its kind in Ireland to focus on how movement and skill acquisition can maximise the transfer from the practice environment to the performance arena. The process of moving from a traditional drills-based approach to a more effective constraints-based paradigm can be challenging for coaches and athletes alike. Movement & Skill Acquisition Ireland are committed to examining the relationship between constraints-based coaching and ecological dynamics to help create better decision-makers in the heat of battle.

To tackle this fascinating topic, attendees will be treated to a world-class line up of speakers that will include (additional presenters to be announced):

Prof. Keith Davids – recognised globally as the leading contributor to the development of the theory of ecological dynamics and non-linear pedagogy for the last 20 years.

Richard Shuttleworth – arguably the most experienced practitioner in constraints-based coaching on the planet, with a CV that includes England Rugby, Australian Institute of Sport, GB Boxing.

Mark O’Sullivan – known worldwide to be at the coal-face of changing the coaching culture within soccer to produce more effective academy environments through his work at AIK Sweden.

Attendees will also take part in the first ever transatlantic skill acquisition assembly. On day 2 we will connect via video for a live Q&A to Shawn Myszka (movement coach to Everson Griffen of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL), who is hosting America’s first Sport Movement Skill Conference from Concordia University, with another exceptional line-up of speakers. Content from both conferences will be made available to all attendees. So you get 2 conferences for the price of 1!

Movement and Skill Acquisition Ireland has been formed by Dr. Edward Coughlan (CIT), Dr. Phil Kearney (UL) and Olly Logan (British Swimming).
